July 9, 2014– New Orleans,LA— Welcome to NOLA!!!! How did you spend your 4th of July weekend? This year, I tried something new, and it was time well spent! #EssenceFest is still trending via social media, and I want to attempt to explain why! This year was the 20th anniversary of the Essence Festival–formerly known as the “party with a purpose!” The Essence Festival is the largest event celebrating African-American culture and music in the United States! Essence Magazine hosts the annual weekend event to empower attendees through conferences, celebrity guest appearances, and live music performances! Each year a well-renowned artist headlines the nightly concert series and who better to bring in the 20 year anniversary than the artist formerly known as Prince?!
I had the pleasure of serving as a brand ambassador (BA) with an exclusive Mobile Marketing Company based in Arizona, entrusted with providing exemplary event staff throughout the nation! Lifetime Networks has leaped into the urban demographic with the promotion of Season 2 of their hit dance reality TV show, “Bring It!” which follows the lives of a power-house competition dance team and their stern coach, Miss Dee. As a BA, I assisted in the distribution of freebies to audience members, encouraged crowd participation, and ensured cast members were well-represented among the 50,000+ Essence Festival attendees.
Essence Festival in a few words is a DYNAMIC experience! It celebrates the lives of black men and women across the globe– and it’s nice to be in the midst of such powerful energy for an entire weekend! I could go on and on… but I will save the details for you to experience for yourself! In the meantime, checkout some of the pictures I captured backstage with some of the fan favorites! Be sure to visit Essence Festival online to grab your tickets for next year’s event! Yes, they will be sold out and lodging space is limited!!!
