This past Sunday, #BlackGirlsRock aired on BET and it was absolutely everything! Let me just say that I am so here for women of color gathering in one space to honor and celebrate one another and our accomplishments. When I was growing up, there were so many positive representations of black women in the media that you couldn’t help but feel empowered. However, somewhere along the lines, that positive image of women who looked and sounded like us got lost and the beauty and excellence of black women started to take a backseat. And it’s so easy to forget that we are amazing just the way we are.
So now, more than ever, shows like #BlackGirlsRock are extremely necessary in today’s world to remind us that we rock in so many powerful ways – from our unique looks and our various shapes and sizes to our fierce beauty and style.
Speaking of style, did you catch a glimpse of the oh-so fabulous looks? From Tracee Ellis Ross to Jill Scott, check below for a few of my favorite looks of the night (including ways to copy the look)!
1. Tracee Ellis Ross
Host Tracee Ellis Ross shut it down in a white, one-shoulder gown. I love the pinned up ‘fro and pop of lip color. So glam!

2. Janelle Monae
Janelle Monae can never do any wrong in my book. Her eclectic style and how she stays true to herself so effortlessly is awe-inspiring. And I love that she is starting to show a more edgy side, especially in this midi skirt and matching crop top.
Ciara flaunted her perfect post-baby body and made a subtle statement in a black, floor-length slip dress. Someone please give her a modeling contract! Just gorgeous!

4. Ava DuVernay
Ava DuVernay looked flawless on the white carpet in a form-fitting red gown. She paired the look with gold bangles and dangling earrings. I love how regal and sophisticated this look is!

Jilly from Philly had me screaming “Yasssss!” That body? That hair? That jumpsuit? Those floral heels? Everything was a major win! Werk!
