The 8 Best #BlackGirlsRock Beauty Moments of the #VMAs

The 31st annual MTV Video Music Awards will be starting in just a few moments and I am super excited! Not only for the GIF-worthy events that I’m sure will take place, but also for the epic beauty and fashion looks that are about to go down on the red carpet. The VMAs are such a fun award show and celebs typically take it that much further when it comes to their looks than they would for say the Grammys. While some of the outrageousness has been more toned down than years previous, the VMAs are still as wild as they’ve ever been. Before we get into the looks that are awaiting this year, let’s take a glimpse back at some of our favorite VMA beauty moments from black girls who rock.

Check below  to relive my favorites:

Halle Berry

Halle Berry made menswear and a daring red lip a thing at the 1992 Video Music Awards. Everything about this look is so 90s and I love it!

Janet Jackson

Janet Jackson made us fall in love with her “Poetic Justice” braids all over again at the 1994 Video Music Awards and we’re still obsessed.

Remember when groups didn’t go anywhere without coordinating outfits? Ahh…the good ole’ days! TLC definitely made the whole ravaged look work for them. And blue eyeshadow? Can we say trendsetters?

Monica and Brandy

The queens of the 90s Monica and Brandy slayed on the red carpet at the 1998 Video Music Awards. If you didn’t want to be one of them growing up, we can’t be friends.

Lil’ Kim

It was the boob seen around the world. Lil Kim‘s 1999 Video Music Awards look even got Diana Ross‘s stamp of approval, so what else could you need?

The “pitbull in a skirt” was in perfect form at the 2000 Video Music Awards wearing a gold choker, gold mini dress and red accent pieces. I lowkey need this entire look in my closet tbh.

Aaliyah made prints popular at the 2000 Video Music Awards and we got all of our life. Continue to RIP babygirl.

Destiny’s Child

This look had it all…fringe, pointy-toed boots and studded embellishments. It seriously gets no better.

Don’t you love all these throwback looks? Who do you think will have the craziest look tonight? Let me know below!

Stay Stylish,
