Breakfast at Barney’s — Downtown Atlanta’s Newest Black-Owned Breakfast Social

We can all agree that this year has been A LOT, but that didn’t stop us from celebrating my husband’s birthday in a low-key, yet memorable kind of way. When I asked my husband what he wanted to do for his birthday, he kept it simple: let’s go get some brunch.

My husband’s favorite meal is breakfast, and I couldn’t wait to treat him to something special for his birthday. I also wanted to celebrate the fact that my husband left his 9-5 this January to work for himself full-time at his Music Label and Film Production Company, Yell-Air!

As married millennial entrepreneurs, this road has been no cake walk, but its truly the path for us! It takes so much courage to step out on faith, but when God is the one leading you– there is no fear. Here we are, fearlessly living out our dreams!

Since we both became full-time entrepreneurs, we’ve been so fortunate to continue to grow together as one, while building our businesses as black entrepreneurs. My husband’s timing is always on point because Pharrell William even released a new single, Entrepreneur, as the perfect soundtrack to my husband’s recent leap of faith.

Now more than ever, black business owners nationwide are rising up and walking into their power, and we were even more excited to support another fellow black-owned business this birthday celebration — at Breakfast at Barney’s.

Breakfast at Barney’s

With a soft opening on August 31st, 2020, Breakfast at Barney’s is part brunch spot and part daytime social club, fit for the bustling scene of black excellence here in Atlanta. As seen on the official Breakfast at Barney’s website:

Breakfast At Barneys is a family run business founded by two AUC alumni friends “Barney” Lee Berry Jr & Dr. Rashad Sanford.

Our waitress was so welcoming and the first thing she said upon greeting us:

Welcome to Breakfast at Barney’s, we are Black-Owned.

Okay?! Now that’s how you set the mood for an ULTRA BLACK dining experience! We visited the restaurant just two weeks after their grand opening, and our review? LOVED IT! The ambiance itself is worthy of praise. The sleek, emerald city-inspired interior design really sets the tone for the flavorful food, soulful music, and knowledgeable, friendly staff.

NEW YORK STEAK & EGGS

There is a usually a small wait, but for us, there was none! We went on Thursday afternoon, around 12pm, and the parking was — hassle-free! Now that’s also a huge flex, especially being located in the heart of Downtown Atlanta.

GISELLE CLIMPSON, HAPPY WIFE, HAPPY LIFE!

The menu is great and offers a number of dishes. Since hubby and I are leading a plant-based-ish lifestyle, we were happy to see a number of vegetarian and vegan options for those that don’t eat animals. But, it was hubby’s birthday, so it was a cheat day for both of us. We both had entrees from their Barney’s 10AM Brunch Menu, which includes a few signature items perfect for mid-day/brunch dining options.

SAVANNAH FISH & GRITS
FRESHLY PRESSED ORANGE JUICE

To my fellow Mimosa fans, they currently don’t sell alcohol at this time, but they are working on it! Honestly, the food and dining experience was so good, the alcohol wasn’t even missed!

Let me add, that the restaurant itself is truly fit for a King. They even boast menu items with clever on-brand names, such as 14 KARAT GOLD PANCAKES and the EMPORERS BREAKFAST.

And last but not least, the elite MANSA MUSA TOWER– which includes A decadent combination of 14 karat gold pancakes, yard bird platter, fried lobster and grits, 1 bottle of Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Brut | 1 bottle of Armand De Brignac “Ace Of Spades” | you only live once | serves up to four guests!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KING

Overall, this was a great dining experience and as residents of Downtown Atlanta, we are super happy to welcome Barney’s to the neighborhood.

There’s a whole lot of black man entrepreneurial energy in atmosphere, and I’m so happy to watch you grow and become the Man God has called you to be!

I’m glad your birthday was everything you wanted and more!

CORDERIUS “AWESOMEISJAYELL” CLIMPSON

Happy Birthday Hubby, and I love you foreverrrr!

Black man, black man, black man… This is OUR YEAR!
