Film Review — “The Woman in the Yard,” A Spiritual Mirror Into the Depths of Our Healing Journey

Last evening, I decided to watch the film “The Woman in the Yard.” I had no expectations, except to be entertained. But, the message of this film went far beyond my own preconceived notions. It felt like a Jordan Peele film. However, it centered on the woman’s story. I like to the woman’s story, the Divine Feminine within.

Without giving away any spoilers, I’ll give you one key takeaway: do your shadow work, or else your shadow becomes you! This theme is common across many present-day films. Examples include The New Avengers and Netflix’s Bird Box.

But, let’s dig a little deeper, what is shadow work?

Shadow work is the intentional process of exploring and integrating the hidden, suppressed, or rejected parts of yourself—what psychologist Carl Jung called the “shadow.”

Your shadow is made up of the aspects of you that you’ve pushed away or denied—because they were too painful, too shameful, or didn’t “fit” who you were taught you should be.

This can include things like:

  • Anger
  • Jealousy
  • Insecurity
  • Fear
  • Grief
  • Desires you were told were wrong
  • Even your creativity, sensuality, or voice—if they were ever shut down

But here’s the truth: the shadow isn’t bad. It’s wounded.
And shadow work is the sacred practice of bringing light to what’s been living in the dark—with love, not judgment.

In the film “Lady in the Yard,” it illustrates how these aspects of ourselves can manifest into our real-life. Our job is to identify the shadow, and do our best to heal this part of ourselves.

Personally, I began my own personal healing journey when I connected with my now Husband, back in 2017. I was in therapy, doing the work, and taking time to get to know myself. I was also integrating parts of myself that were in hiding due to envy, jealousy, or downright shame.

Fast forward to 2025 and I am whole. I am one with all aspects of myself, even though I’ve lost a few friends along the way. We are here to evolve, not to merely stay the same. It was hard. I’m still working on myself daily. I am so glad I got an early start on this journey back to myself. Because, today, things are not the same.

The shadow self can no longer hide in the corners, the sunshine is here to shed light on every part of you — even the parts that make you uncomfortable! We must integrate our light and dark to become whole.

Have you noticed some people you’re close to have started to act, strange? Maybe they used to talk a lot, and now they’re more reserved or quiet. Maybe you had a friend that you were once close with, and now there seems to be a lot of distance. This is due to your own personal healing, and realizing those that have chosen not to heal themselves.

This shift is planetary, Mother Earth is deciding to cleanse herself and all impurities must be released.

As Pluto enters this visionary sign of Aquarius, the Sun flares stronger.

Not by accident. But by design.
This solar flare energy is not just external—it’s internal.
It’s the divine fire within you being reignited.

The (New) Sun is illuminating the corners of your being that have lived too long in the dark.

Stay hydrated, drink your water. Don’t leave home without it!

It’s revealing the truth behind the mask.
It’s saying, “You can no longer hide from yourself.”

And maybe that’s what we’ve feared the most all along: being fully seen. Not by others—but by our own soul.

But let me say this—your darkness is not your enemy.

It’s your initiation.
It’s your sacred map back home.

So if you feel stirred after watching Lady in the Yard, let yourself feel it. Don’t rush to understand it. Sit with it.

Let the whispers rise from the yard of your own soul.

We are being invited to embrace the wholeness of who we are—not just the light, but the shadow, too.

In this age of Aquarius, the age of knowing, of revealing, of truth—we are becoming who we were always meant to be.
