How to Layer Like a Fashion Pro

Fashionistas,

I am so ready for cooler weather and not just because I love Fall fashion (okay, maybe that has a little to do with it). Fall is the best season for sprucing up your wardrobe, and it gives you so many options on what to wear and how to style your favorite pieces. One of my favorite things about Fall fashion is layering. Not only is it a great way to deal with cooler temps, but you can really develop some seasonal staples in the process.

Not quite sure how to layer effortlessly? No worries! I’ve included a few tips on how to layer like a pro, while remaining fashionable. Check them out:

1. Opt for Fitted Under Layers

Many are afraid of layering for the fear of appearing bigger than they actually are. The key to creating a slimming silhouette while complementing your proportions is to select under layers that cling closer to the body and accentuate your frame. For example, layer a cashmere sweater or bold cardigan over a fitted tee. You can even try something belted if you want to give the illusion of a slimmer waistline.

2. Mix Textures

It is always a great idea to incorporate a mix of patterns and fabrics when layering. Switching up the fabrics will makes the ensemble less static and helps you appear more lean, and I don’t know about you, but anything that doesn’t add unwanted weight in those less-than-flattering areas has me sold! Pair some form-fitting leather pants with a slouchy knit sweater for the perfect comfy chic look.

3. Select Contrasting Tones

While it is natural to automatically rush to neutral hues for Fall fashion, it is important to steer away from your basic camel, white, and black. Because you are covering more skin, you really want to find a way to keep your wardrobe fresh and not stuck to one season. Because color-blocking is the trend that keeps on giving, try out jewel tones for a warm vibe.

4. Add Accessories

What better way to showcase your personality than with a few add-ons? Whether your accessories of choice are a sleek fedora, veiled beanie, or scarf, the perfect options pull together any look and instantly translate into a cool-girl aesthetic.
