4 Tips for Styling a Midi Skirt

Fashionistas,

Midi skirts are one of my most beloved summer-to-fall staples for a variety of reasons. The dropped hemlines and cinched waists create a flattering silhouette for an ultra feminine, vintage look. And when done properly, the skirt can instantly give your appearance a classic makeover. What’s not to love?

However, as trendy as the piece is, midi skirts are a bit tricky for us short girls (see 5’2 and under). Because the skirt hits just about the calf area, you can actually look shorter than you already are, which is an absolute no go, right?

But you can still get in on the midi fun with a few essential styling tips. Check below for tips of how to rock your midi skirt:

1. Balance Midi Skirt With Fitted Top

Because midi skirts create volume on the bottom, balance out the full skirt with a close-fitting top. To keep your look streamlined and polished, make sure the top ends at your waist and further complements your frame. If your skirt is a print or pattern, opt for a solid-toned top to counter the busy element.

2. Length Is Key!

Even if you want to own that super full midi skirt look, if your skirt is even two inches too long, you can end up looking like a bag lady — yikes! Make sure your skirt hits that thinner part of your leg and not the thicker part, which can make you look stout and frumpy.

3. Choose the Right Footwear

For this look, your shoe of choice can really make or break the entire ensemble. For example, close-toe flats can give a homely appearance. In that case, choose a heel that exposes your foot, such as open-toe strappy heels, to lengthen your leg and give some much-needed proportion.

4. Play With Accessories

If you don’t know by now, I am all about accessories! And you can easily pull off this look by pairing your outfit with a chic statement necklace or handbag. Edgy accessories instantly upgrade the otherwise mod look and take it to the next level for all types of occasions.
