Fashionistas,
Do you feel that? That pesky little chill in the air? If you didn’t already know (or have been living under a rock for the last few weeks), Fall is well underway! As if the sudden drop in temperature wasn’t any indication, the appearance of some very on-trend outerwear pieces is a dead giveaway. Although I’m a Florida native and our Fall consists of 80 degree weather instead of the usual 100 degrees, I long for the days when I can throw on a pull-over for a classic, relaxed look. Who wants to be freezing and restricted? Certainly not me.
The best outerwear choice for a casual look? Blanket coats. Blankets coats are a cozy chic way to stay warm while blending comfort and style. They are super versatile and can be paired with any type of ensemble, yet simple enough to avoid overwhelming the rest of your outfit. And the piece was everywhere on the Fall 2014 runways, further proving it is one of the season’s must-wear trends.

But blanket coats can be tricky because they tend to be oversized and have more of an unstructured element to them. However, don’t worry! There are always ways around a fashion dilemma! To keep things more polished, pair your coat with a belt to pull it in at the waist and give it more shape, and be sure to keep the rest of the outfit simple for a streamlined effect. Also, don’t be afraid to rock the coat in unconventional ways, such as off the shoulder or folded for added proportion. The key is to have fun while making sure you don’t look like the crazy lady who tried to pass her couch afghan as attire.

The coat I’m currently eyeing? This striped blanket cape at River Island:
It has everything — an equestrian vibe, fringe, colorblocking. Ahh…to-die!
