May 12th, 2020, Atlanta, GA / Giselle Ave. Media. — So you’re spending way more time at home than usual and you notice everything. The kitchen needs a face lift. The living room is dull. The bathroom never really had a theme, but now it feels like an interior design emergency! And now, you’re searching Pinterest for inspiration! All of a sudden, home improvement is suddenly your top priority!
Of all the trends I’ve noticed coming out of this quarantine life — Versuz battles on Insta, creative date nights, and Zoom birthday celebrations; one of my favorites so far is seeing everyone invest time in transforming their houses into homes! While I’ll be the first to admit that I’m no interior designer, but I do have an eye for creating a space filled with art, love, and creativity.
Today, I’d like to share four quick ways to brighten up your home, as a way to keep those creative juices flowing from the inside out!
4 Ways to Brighten Up Your Home

House Plants
When I first moved into a loft a couple of years ago, I noticed how this place needed some life. I adopted a cat, and I bought house plants. Mission add more life to the loft complete! This past weekend, we added some new plant babies to the loft! I even went as far as naming them, okay?! The photo above is of Cactus Jack & Cactus Jill (Moon Cactus) and let me tell you, color changes everything! Although there are HELLA levels to the plant life, even just one real plant makes a world of difference in your home. There are even companies like Bloomscape, disrupting the houseplant industry, taking the stress out of finding the right plant for you!

Playing Music
Have you ever listened to a song that immediately boosts your mood? We often reduce playing music to “cleaning time,” but the frequency of certain music can really welcome an air of peace, creativity, and tranquility into your home. In the mornings, I like to listen to calming music, with high frequencies. There are even playlists online that you can stream nonstop, and they’re really dope! Music is a quick and easy way to brighten your home, so go ahead and play your favorite album and see how quickly your home brightens up! I recently added Vinyls to my list of ways to listen to my favorite music, in different art forms. What do you think?

Accent Wall
Live in color, literally. We have 3 accent walls in our loft, and they all bring a unique brightness and livelihood into our home. Even though we’re renting, I’ve always been an advocate for adding a little color to your home via a nice accent wall. You can choose just one color starting out, but WOW– it really makes a difference! If you’re looking for a new house project, consider painting an accent wall in your home.

Art
My favorite…. Art! This sounds like a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised by how many people live in homes without art, at all. Empty walls can make you feel empty on the inside. Your living space becomes a reflection of you, so why not add a bit of original art into the mix?! Art doesn’t have to be expensive, you can even paint or hang up art that you’ve done yourself! If you follow Artists on Instagram, a lot of them are now offering prints that you can purchase directly from their websites! Also, we have covered several artists here on Giselle Ave. in case you need somewhere to start. Just read our culture column!

I’ve shared 4 quick ways to brighten your home, but I know there are tons of other ways to add to this list!
