Hi Travelers!
Now usually, I share the latest albums I’m streaming on Giselle Ave. with little to no context. I mean, if it made to my blog then certainly its a great album to buy… pretty self explanatory, right? Well, for W.L.R. I’ll make an exception.
One of Atlanta’s most underground, mainstream artists — Playboi Carti, released his third studio album on Christmas Day last year. This highly-anticipated album has been on Playboi Carti fans’ radar for a while now! His last album, Die Lit, was released in 2018 and critics and fans alike have been patiently waiting to see what the abstract artist is going to do next.
The wait is over, and it was worth it! W.L.R. was executive produced by Kanye West and the album artwork was designed by Jung “Art Dealer” Chung. With features from Kanye West, Future, and Kid Cudi– the album takes listeners on a deep dive journey of “VAMP LIFE,” as described by Playboi Carti.
At very first listen, I was like — what is this CARTI?!?!?! But surprisingly, I stepped away from the album and gave it another spin after listening to The Plug Radio’s Playboi Carti episode on Apple Music. When I went back and listened to it again in January 2021 — I was blown away! This album is so impressive, it’s raw, it’s animated, it’s new, it’s unique, it is EVERYTHING. No skips.

You’ll have to stream this one for yourself, and let me know what you think! Also — thank you Playboi Carti for remaining true to your own art style and landing a #1 album …. you deserve it!
This might be the best album of 2020, and yes that is a tall order.
