Hey travelers!
As excited as I am that Thanksgiving is approaching, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel a little bit of anxiety about not going overboard at the dinner table this year. I want to get in on the holiday fun while not sacrificing the hard work and discipline I’ve put in.
If you’re like me and want to make it through this holiday season snatched and unbothered, get into four tips that’ll help you do so below:
1. Don’t Beat Yourself Up.
We’re human. Which means we will make mistakes. A lot of them. Wishing for perfection is setting yourself up to fail. It’s not realistic to say you’ll never have a slice of cake again. Or that you’ll never eat Big Mama’s collard greens again. Going into any situation with the mindset that you can stumble but always get back up 10x better is super helpful. One misstep is not the end of the world. Keep in mind that you are doing your best while not holding yourself to impossible expectations. Knowing that I’m going to eat foods I normally wouldn’t, I will make sure to eat extra strict in the week leading up to it. Even though that meal may be off track, by planning for the failure, I can enjoy my meal without worrying about getting back on track.
2. Utilize A Support System.
When I decided to make lifestyle changes, I knew the only way I could succeed was to let my family and close friends in on my goals. That way they knew not to offer or peer pressure me into certain items I wouldn’t be able to eat. Your friends and family are supportive, and will support your goals as long as you tell them about them and get them on board beforehand.
3. Drink More Water
Confession: I hate drinking water. Always have. If you gave me a choice between water and Starbucks, I’m choosing lattes every time. But because I realize the importance of flushing out toxins, I had to get used to drinking it. On my cheat days in particular, I personally love to drink at least 2 liters of water to filter out my system as I’m indulging. While you’re at the Thanksgiving table, keep a glass of water nearby. It’ll keep you from feeling bloated and overall sluggish throughout the day.
4. Get Moving Early
During the holidays, you’re running like a chicken with its head cut off. Grocery shopping, prepping your house for guests, cooking, you name it. So going to the gym for an hour workout when you’re already swamped is just out of the question. To ensure you get some type of activity in, do a quick morning workout instead. Nothing major. A bike ride around the neighborhood, jumping jacks, whatever you need to get moving. Not only will you get your heart pumping early, which will set the tone for the rest of your day, it works wonders as a stress reliever. And we all know holidays = stress.
