Fashionistas,
I have a confession to make. I’ve never been a shorts girl. Blame it on my curvy hips that made finding a pair that fit next to impossible or my thick thighs that would rub together and chafe whenever I made the attempt. Either way, shorts were just never my thing. That was until recently when I tried a pair of denim cut-off shorts on with a bandeau top and opaque tights layered underneath (to protect my thighs). Color me surprised when the one piece of clothing I hated suddenly became my go-to look for casual days. Now, I look forward to finding fresh and unique ways to style and dress them up. The possibilities are endless!
Are you a shorts skeptic like I was? Get into a few tips that will make styling shorts that much easier:
1. Say “No” to Discomfort!
Just because they are shorts doesn’t mean they have to be uncomfortable. If you find yourself having a dig out a wedgie or cover up a camel toe, they don’t fit baby. Shorts should have a loose fit and feel comfy no matter what’s on your agenda for the day.
2. Keep Your Top Balanced
The key to not looking like you’re wearing your barbie doll’s clothes is to pair your shorts with a top that gives more coverage. If you want to go the crop or bandeau route, layer it with a chic moto jacket or denim jean jacket. It’s all about balance.
3. Shoes Are Key
To avoid looking like a street walker, leave your sky-high stilettos in the closet. A pair of chic flats will tone down a pair of short shorts. For a little extra height, wedges are also a cute alternative.
