Fashionistas,
If you’re anything like me, you look forward to the BET Awards every year. It’s the one time of the year when our artists are celebrated and rewarded for their contributions to the music industry and beyond. Not to mention Black Twitter comes together like the extended family we are. It’s seriously one of television’s biggest nights.
But a rundown of what everyone wore on the red carpet is the next best thing, right? Right. Our favorite celebrities and music icons arrived to the event looking nothing short of glamorous and as always, I’m giving you the scoop on what they wore as soon as they stepped foot on the carpet.
Let’s get into their looks!
Rocsi Diaz
Rocsi Diaz looked pretty in a nude and black embellished jumpsuit, a wavy ponytail and soft pink lip. Simple, but it works.
Tia Mowry
Tia Mowry made a bold statement in a multi-toned Roberto Cavalli fringe mini dress paired with gold strappy heels. She completed her look with a sleek bun and smokey eye. I’ll admit, it’s not my favorite from the actress. What do you think?
Meagan Good
Meagan Good sizzled on the red carpet wearing a plunging emerald green gown with side cut-outs and a front slit. Her red lip and flowing hair add to the look perfectly.
Mya
Mya glowed in yellow two-piece ensemble complete with fitted trousers and a caped crop top. So chic! And can we talk about how she still looks like it’s 1998? Life isn’t fair.
Tracee Ellis Ross
The award show host embraced summer prints in a form-fitting long sleeve snakeskin maxi dress. I love the retro vibe her slick wavy hair and red lip combo is giving. I’m on the fence about the neon green pumps, though.
Janelle Monae
True to fashion, Janelle Monae looked stunning in a black and white striped pantsuit to honor the legendary Prince. Red served as her lip color of choice and her side-swept curls were a super cute finish. I’m sure he would have loved it.
Letoya Luckett
Letoya Lucket looked stunning in a red gown with a halter bodice and thigh-high slit. She styled it with strappy sandals and a gold clutch. Gorgeous!
Regina Hall
Regina Hall looked super stylish in a black cut-out maxi dress styled with a chic box clutch, simple jewels and flowing hair. Love this classic yet sultry look.
Gabrielle Union
Gabrielle Union glowed in a patterned burgundy maxi dress with a front slit and asymmetric cut. I’m obsessed with her braids and desperately need them in my life. So glam!
Did you miss the show? Check out a few of my favorite moments below:
Beyonce and Kendrick Lamar wowed the crowd with an electrifying performance of their song “Freedom.” This is one of my favorites off Lemonade and I’m so amped that they chose this platform to perform it. Slay, slay, slay.
Although I wish this song had been given to someone else, I can’t deny that Jennifer Hudson completely nailed her rendition of Prince’s “Purple Rain.” Her vocals were flawless and she brought the entire house to their feet. Rest on, purple one.
And let’s talk about Janelle Monae for a minute, shall we?! Her dance moves, her mannerisms, her look, everything was an amazing ode to her mentor Prince. She did him justice in the best possible way and I was so here for it.
But it was really Grey’s Anatomy star Jesse Williams riveting speech that stole the show. It was brilliant, moving and so necessary for our community with everything happening in our country on a daily basis. Get into the full speech here.
What did you think of the show? Was it just me or was this one of the best shows BET has done? Tell me your thoughts in the comments!
