March 2nd, 2020, Atlanta, GA / Giselle Ave. Media — Our team was invited to the exclusive screening of a new series by Lena Waithe, airing on BET this Wednesday, March 4th, 2020 at 10/9c titled TWENTIES. The screening party took place at Factory Atlanta, located in Chamblee, GA.

One of the first of its kind, this series features an all-female lead cast, including the series lead, Hattie, a queer African American woman, — played by Jonica Gibbs, that hangs out with her two straight best friends, as they all try to make their dreams come true.

At first preview, the series is soulful, raw, and sheds light on the multi-layered black woman’s narrative of today. As a millennial and fellow dreamer, the content is truly relatable, and is somewhere between Insecure on HBO paired with the rawness of Showtime’s The Chi-– also produced by Lena Waithe.

Lena Waithe on Creating Twenties on BET
According to Lena Waithe, this series is her take on what it means to be your own revolution, in an industry where there is little no representation of various marginalized communities.
As seen in an interview with Dino-Ray Ramos for Deadline, Waithe says:
From The Chi to Queen & Slim to Twenties Waithe is very much puts her advocacy in her art — and she admits that everyone will be happy with it. She said she is not afraid to put her foot in her mouth. “I’m a truth-teller,” she bluntly said. “I’m gonna tell you what I feel whether you like it or not.”
